Updated Texas NIBRS Code Table – Version 19
The Texas Uniform Crime Reporting Program has posted changes going into effect September 1, 2023, and has updated the Version 19 Texas NIBRS code table which is available on the NIBRS Technical Documentation page linked below:
https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/crime-records/nibrs-technical-documentation
***NOTE:
- Updates are located within the Texas NIBRS Code Table, under the tab titled "Updates 09.2023" tab.
- If there is an offense that has been coded with 999, that indicates that the offense is not reportable as a NIBRS offense.
- Some offenses are mapped to multiple codes, meaning that the offense could be reported as more than one NIBRS code. It is up to the reporting agency on which code best fits the incident.
- Reminder: Based on NIBRS and Texas-mandated reporting guidelines, DPS provides the Texas NIBRS Code Table as a guide for reporting data to the UCR Program. Local agencies and their vendors will have to determine how best to map data and NIBRS submissions with their systems.
If you have questions, please contact us via either email/phone at NIBRS@dps.texas.gov or the main office number (512) 424-2091.
